The Humboldt Unified School District "Teacher of the Year" program is sponsored by the Humboldt Education Foundation (HEF) and recognizes the most outstanding HUSD teachers. The Humboldt Education Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization created to support the teachers and students of the Humboldt Unified School District. The foundation is comprised of 18 business and community volunteers who give their time and talents to further support their mission.

• Students nominate the teachers, and the highlight of the event is to see them honor their favorite educator
• Annual event made possible by sponsors, including local churches and businesses
• Proceeds go to fund an a award banquet, scholarships and grants for classrooms

The finalists for the teacher of the year are chosen from student submitted essays. Students are encouraged to submit an essay about their favorite teacher explaining why their teacher should be recognized as the Teacher of the Year. Each school selects one finalist to represent their school. A finalist from the K-6th grade category and one from the 7-12th grade category will be selected by the HEF board and will be announced the night of the banquet.

There are sponsorship opportunities available for anyone in the community that is interested. Community partners are encouraged to attend the banquet and help to recognize the amazing work our teachers are doing. Sponsors have several opportunities to be recognized before, during and after the event. Individual tickets or whole tables can be purchased by community agencies to either attend or donate back to the school.
